Waterfall - Bridal Veil

Considered the most beautiful of a complex of forty-two waterfalls in Itaitu, Véu de Noiva is easily accessible from this district. It's just 1.2 km from the village center and is accessible via a trail that's about 4 km round-trip. The hike amidst a landscape of birds, natural shade, and preserved vegetation is an attraction in itself. Its 70-meter drop forms a cold pool perfect for swimming, and it also offers stunning views of the valley for the more adventurous, who can explore the top and even go rappelling.

Church of Figures

In the village of Coqueiros, in Mirangaba, lies Serra das Figuras, a place full of mystery and stunning landscapes, with a three-hundred-year-old temple dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. The Igreja das Figuras was built by Romão Gramacho, one of Bahia's greatest gold prospectors during the colonial era. According to legend, he made a pact with the devil to build the temple. "But he tricked the devil, who, driven mad, began kicking the church walls. People say that's why one of the walls is tilted," he said. Another legend claims that Romão, to evade taxes, hid part of the gold he found—and, as a result, people still search for this treasure there. Until 1979, the Igreja das Figuras stood. But a little over a year later, a fire struck the temple and destroyed the roof—and, as a result, the site deteriorated over time. Even so, every year on September 29th, Saint Michael's Day, his devotees go there.
